National Preparedness Month 2023

Are you prepared for an emergency?

National Preparedness Month began in 2004, three years following 9/11. September was designated National Preparedness Month by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, acknowledging both the peak of the Atlantic coast hurricane season, as well as the 9/11 tragedy — those who were lost, those who survived, and those who heroically served. The month is devoted to the promotion of preparedness and readiness for emergencies and disasters.

The City of Cottage Grove will participate in National Preparedness Month by running a social media campaign. Daily posts will be made to the City’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CityofCottageGroveOR/. The content of those posts will be geared towards this year’s theme: Preparing older adults for disaster, but will practically relate to three things:

1) Building an emergency kit,
2) Making an emergency plan, and
3) Being informed.

Small prizes, such as water filtration straws, emergency light sticks, and emergency blankets, can be attained through liking posts, downloading phone applications, or completing a survey. Grand prizes can be attained through weekly raffles, which all participants will be entered into. If you would like to participate, follow along on the City’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CityofCottageGroveOR/.
