Cottage Grove Genealogical Society
The Cottage Grove Genealogical Society was organized February 10, 1975 to promote and stimulate interest in genealogy and to collect and preserve genealogical and historical information, especially that pertaining to Cottage Grove and the surrounding areas. The Cottage Grove Genealogical Society is an all-volunteer group. Everyone is a key member doing their very best to continue the interest in genealogy for the benefit of all.
Our research library is open to the public and contains over 5,000 books including family histories, county histories, atlases, research aids, resource records along with many rolls of microfilm and microfiche.
Cottage Grove Historical Society
Cottage Grove Historical Society is a non-profit society of volunteers with membership open to all who meet to learn more about protecting our local cultural heritage. The mission of the Cottage Grove Historical Society is to preserve and celebrate the history and heritage of the Cottage Grove area and to stimulate interest and knowledge for generations to come. The Marcia E. Allen Historical Research Library is located in the historic Square Dance Barn, 308 S 10th Street in Cottage Grove. Our librarians gathers, organizes, and catalogs information into a traditional library setting so it can then be used by the general public.
Cottage Grove Museum
The Cottage Grove Museum was formerly Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. It was built in 1897, and this unique octagonal structure was patterned after a small church in Germany. Also, the original stained glass windows were imported from Italy. When the parish moved in 1961, the building was purchased and deeded to the City for use as a museum. It is now listed in the National Register of Historical places.
The Cottage Theatre
Cottage Theatre is a non-profit community theatre in Cottage Grove, Oregon. We produce a year-round season of plays and musicals and serve an annual audience of more than 10,000 people. From our humble beginnings under a parachute in 1982, we now perform in our own 150-seat facility that was built with community support in 1998 and expanded in 2006. As a community theatre, we pride ourselves on being an organization fueled by volunteers. All of our artistic personnel, from actors to directors to set painters to lighting designers to ushers, are volunteers. Several hundred volunteers contribute an estimated 50,000 hours of service every year.
Oregon Aviation Historical Society
Here at the Oregon Aviation Historical Society our mission is to collect, preserve, and restore Oregon related aviation artifacts for interpretive and educational display to insure the preservation of Oregon’s rich aviation heritage for future generations.
Prospectors and Golddiggers
The Prospectors and Golddiggers are devoted to prospecting for better things for Cottage Grove. The organization was incorporated as a non-profit, dedicated to charitable and educational purposes. The group helps to promote the historical mining culture, that began with the gold rush in 1865. Each member is required to wear period costumes during the various civic functions throughout the year.
Bohemia Mining Museum
The museum is a living and expanding memorial to all miners, and to the rich history of gold mining activities in the Bohemia Mining District. The museum’s collection of photographs, tools, ore samples, and other artifacts pays tribute to the area’s gold mining history. The museum is dedicated to the memory of Guy Leabo, a long-time area miner with a passion to preserve the history of the Bohemia Mining District. Many of the artifacts in the museum were donated from his personal collection.
Singing Creek Educational Center
Singing Creek Educational Center is a nonprofit in Cottage Grove serving children and families with hands-on history and eco-friendly education. Located in the historic Dr. Snapp House in Prospector's Park, the center offers year round programs and events, including summer camps, school field trips, homeschool, and more. They feature culturally responsive and inclusive curriculum including learning about the Kalapuya and other Oregon Native tribes. Inter-generational learning and celebration is a key value and retired volunteers often share skills and knowledge with the children. A Grandparent's Pioneer Tea is featured each September where children celebrate their ties with grandparents and "grandfriends". Programs are offered onsite or in classrooms in the Lane County area.
