PakTech Expansion in Cottage Grove
The City of Cottage Grove is excited to welcome PakTech as they will be expanding their operations to the former Kwikee Building at 230 Davidson. The expansion will initially bring 35 jobs with expansion to over 100 jobs to Cottage Grove. They plan to begin limited operation in December of this year. Work will start on repairs to the building immediately.
“Bringing PakTech to Cottage Grove was a community effort,” said Thomas Munroe, Mayor of Cottage Grove. “It could not have happened without the efforts of City Staff, Commission Faye Stewart, Emerald People’s Utility District and the Chamber of Commerce.”
The City of Cottage Grove has been working with agents representing PakTech since May to determine the possibility of locating in the vacant manufacturing building at 230 Davidson.
PakTech is the innovative leader of injection molded packaging handles and in-line automated application equipment based in Eugene. PakTech is a full-service company, providing handles and application equipment to food and beverage and consumer goods industries making it easy for consumers to grab, carry, and release multiple products using a simple, low waste, 100% recyclable handle. The demand for the services of PakTech is growing quickly requiring a rapid expansion.
Because of the short time-line, the City and Emerald People’s Utility District partnered to quickly meet the needs of PakTech.
“Emerald strives to be a good economic partner to the cities and communities we serve,” said Scott Coe, Emerald PUD general manager. “The addition of this customer has allowed us to advance planned capital improvements. Although it will take a significant commitment of time and resources, we are committed to rising to the challenge.”
“PakTech’s arrival in Cottage Grove has great potential to accelerate local economic growth,” said Emerald PUD Board President Katherine Schacht. “We anticipate seeing the Cottage Grove community excel with the expected arrival of quality jobs, and we are excited to bring increased reliability to existing and future residential and business customer-owners.”
Emerald PUD will be making a substantial investment in improvements to the transmission system that will bring significant improvements to the reliability and capacity to the Cottage Grove area.
“Reliable energy is key to job growth for the cities and towns in our District,” said Ron Davis, Emerald PUD Board Director. “For this reason, Emerald has committed financial resources for long-term infrastructure upgrades.”
“Having PakTech expand their operations into Cottage Grove is great news,” said Mayor Munroe. “We are happy to have them here not only because of the new quality manufacturing jobs but because of the additional improvements to electrical services that will come to the area as a result.”
PakTech is a leader in sustainability, designing and manufacturing packaging handles that provide a simple, low-waste alternative for bulk packaging. PakTech handles are injection molded using post consumer recycled High Density PolyEthylene (#2 HDPE), making our handles universally recyclable. The PakTech building has been vacant since Kwikee was acquired by Actuant and operations moved to Indiana in December 2007. The building remained under lease to Actuant into 2013 with the owner.
