Cottage Grove Police Department

The Patrol Division encompasses the largest and most visible function of the Cottage Grove Police Department. It is our first line of service to the citizens of Cottage Grove and as such, our most important asset. All other divisions of the Police Department are designed to support the Patrol Division. The Patrol Division is staffed by 13 patrol officers and 3 patrol Sergeants. These Officers and Sergeants are augmented by volunteer Reserve Officers. Together these men and women provide patrol and emergency law enforcement services to the city 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Patrol Division patrols and responds to all calls for service within the incorporated area of Cottage Grove.  Patrol Officers are responsible for a variety of functions within the Police Department including City Patrol, Emergency Response to 911 Calls, Traffic Enforcement & Accident investigation, Municipal Jail Functions, Criminal Investigation, Response to Tactical Incidents, Service of Search and Arrest Warrants, Crime Prevention, Animal Control, Security Checks such as Vacation House Checks and Directed Patrol, Police K-9, Parking Control and Marking / Tagging of Abandoned Vehicles.

Also included in the Patrol Division is the CSOs (Community Service Officers).

Protecting our city and its citizens from injury, danger or loss is our top priority. We strive to do this in a respectful manner based on our core values of Dedication, Commitment and Service. Each Officer is empowered to respond to the best of their ability to the problems of our citizens. The citizens are our customers, and service is our product.

DISTRICT PATROL: Each of our Officers is expected to patrol the City Limits of Cottage Grove. Our Officers are intimately familiar with the city limits of Cottage Grove so they can respond quickly and recognize when things are amiss. Patrol is a time tested and important part of crime suppression.
