PART TIME RECORDS CLERK
POLICE DEPARTMENT

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:    Performs a variety of routine and clerical duties such as typing; filing; receiving incoming requests for information by telephone and in person; assisting with computer logging and recording of reports, citations and photo fingerprint files; copying and distribution of reports. Performs confidential secretarial, and/or technical duties in support of the Records Section of the Support Services Division. Does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:   An employee in this classification is responsible for performing a variety of duties in support of the Records Property Evidence section of the Support Services Division of the Police Department. Work in this classification is performed under the general supervision of the Records Coordinator who reviews work primarily on the basis of accuracy and conformance to existing laws and Department policies.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:    (Illustrative only. An employee in this class may perform any or all duties listed. These examples do not, however, include all tasks, which the employee may be expected to perform within this class.)
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of rules of effective English usage and Grammar. Ability to answer phones, type, copy, and file. Some knowledge of computer usage, and general office practices and procedures. Willingness to take on new tasks.
   
ABILITY TO:      Use multi-line telephone system, the operation of standard office equipment, copier, typewriter, and computer. Maintain confidential information.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:    High School graduation or equivalency. Reliable and conscientious with a pleasant personality, neat appearance, patience, good handwriting or printing. Able to handle multiple telephone lines simultaneously, follow police department policies and procedures as they relate to the nature of the position.

SALARY:    $11.00/hr    32 hours/week 

TESTING AND EVALUATION:  The testing process will consist of practical aptitude testing, an oral board interview, an interview by the Records Coordinator and Chief of Police, a comprehensive background investigation, and a drug test.

 Must submit a typing certificate 45 wpm with application
