How to run for Mayor or City Council
To qualify as a candidate: (in addition to Ward residency requirements see the City Wards Map)
        1.)  Must be a qualified elector within the meaning of the Constitution, and
        2.)  Must be a resident of the City of Cottage Grove during the 12 month immediately preceding the election.

Please see the City Charter for the detailed qualifications, powers and duties of the Mayor and City Councilors.

Filing for Candidacy
A candidate may file by Petition or by Declaration.  Candidancy packets will be available for City positions June 2, 2010.  Deadline for filing by declaration or by completed petition is August 24, 2010 for the November 2010 Election.   Completed petitions require a specific number of  verified signatures if filing by petition or payment of $15 if filing by declaration.

Prior to beginning your campaign you must complete forms required by both State and Local election laws.  The complete packet and information for the November 2010 General Election will be available June 2, 2010.  The complete packet of required forms and information will be available from the City Elections Official, Trudy Borrevik, at City Hall in the City Manager's Office.
